Choosing a hotel to stay in is one of the most important decisions to make when planning a trip. This can be difficult, especially when embarking on a journey to an unfamiliar destination. A perfect choice can help make the trip a more exciting experience while a poor choice could ruin the trip altogether. Below we will discuss five major factors to consider before booking a hotel.

Price

Choosing a hotel that suits your travel budget is a key factor to consider. This would help you save some cost if well thought out. Hotel prices are affected by location, hotel type (luxury or budget hotel) and also by the facilities. With the right research you can get a good bargain in a top hotel (especially when they offer discounts).

Location

So many questions would come to mind when considering the hotel’s location. Is it close to the venue of your primary reason for travelling? Is it in a secure location? What is transportation in the area like? What are the tourist attractions around the area? Are there any medical centres around? All these questions and more need to be properly answered to make sure you are close to everything you would need throughout your stay.

Facilities/Amenities

This is one very important factor to consider because it helps you understand what facilities are available at the hotel compared what the ones you need. Therefore helps you avoid unpleasant surprises. For instance, it would be discouraging to find out that the hotel does not have Wi-Fi and internet connection, especially for those on a business trip. How about finding out that you might need to share the bathroom or some other conveniences.

Value

Getting true value for money spent can only be done by comparing prices of the different hotels simultaneously. You can ask for discounts and other lucrative offers ad save some money. Apart from considering the price of the hotel, you can also research about value added services like laundry/dry cleaning, internet access, extended room services, etc.

Reviews

Reading through the experiences of others who have stayed at any of the hotels you are considering would help to authenticate the quality and standard of the hotel. Though you can’t solely rely on this factor, most times these reviews are honest and vital resources needed when deciding between hotels. These reviews help you answer questions like are the hotel rooms clean, are the air conditioners working, how friendly is the customer service and whether the food at the restaurant is any good.

If you put these five factors into consideration before booking a hotel for your next trip, am sure you would not be disappointed with your choice.

How to lose fat, without killing yourself in a tough diet … There are so many stories, so many tales. How do they do it? And who really knows the best way to do it, without it being too hard on you? We all have our jobs, a busy lifestyle and family to attend to.

There is no time for a complicated diet added to your busy schedule. I understand it's hard to take the first step and get started if you do not know what to do. When you see someone who has done it, then you know this person must know the answer.

Being a fitness model, a figure competitor and a personal trainer, I know how to do it and now I am telling you all to learn! Just follow the free schedules and titles below as a guidance to your new lifestyle, to the new you. Are you ready to see the fat melting off, easy and stress-free? Let's go!

Training
As Little As 3 Times A Week

You can train as little as three times a week, just 45 minutes per session. After training I want you to do 30 minutes of cardio to burn off the fat even faster. You can also do 45 minutes of cardio if you're up for it, I leave that up to you. Choose any machine you like.

There is no need to spend hours and hours, days and days in the gym. That is what the commercials tell you on TV, to sell you their 'new innovative' product. It's really not that hard, actually you will find yourself enjoying doing the exercises. Time flies by as you're occupied and before you know, you're done. You just need to get up and go. You'll feel great when you're done!

Training Sample:

To spend only three days a week in the gym, and have significant results, here is a great sample schedule to do it. Follow this exact schedule if you like, or feel free to adjust it to your preference if you wish to train other body parts on different days.

O Monday: Legs and shoulders, calves
O Tuesday: Training off
O Wednesday: Back and biceps, abs
O Thursday: Training off
O Friday: Chest and triceps, abs
O Saturday: Training off
O Sunday: Training off

Try to do 3 or 4 exercises per major muscle group (legs, back, chest, shoulders), and 2 or 3 exercises per minor muscle group (biceps, triceps). You can do 1 or 2 exercises for abs and calves. Go for 3 sets of about 12-15 reps per set.

On training days, try to train not later than before the fourth meal, so that you have enough energy to train well during the day.

Diet
Every Weekend Is Free!

Instead of talking about what you can not eat, let's talk about what you can eat. There are actually a lot of food items that you can eat! I want you to have six 'meals' a day. Do not worry, you will not have to spend your time in the kitchen cooking all day, some of the 'meals' will be a quick shake or snack. You will be eating every 3 hours. This is to speed up your metabolism so that your body will burn all the calories faster. This is what we want to lose that body fat.

I made a great tasting diet schedule for you, which will help you get those results! For each meal, I put carbs, proteins and / or fat sources in the diet schedule below. Feel free to switch them up with any of the other food sources (in the same category!). Just pick what you feel like having from the table, or follow my sample diet schedule. It's easy as that!

Preferably I want your vegetables to be steamed and I want you to use Pam fat-free cooking spray instead of olive oil or especially butter to cook your food. You can find calorie-free salad dressing in all flavors for a great tasting salad and delicious calorie free marinades for chicken, beef or fish. You can also use fat-free mayonnaise, ketchup, sweeteners, herbs and spices to enhance the taste of your food. Told you this diet would be good.

The amount per food item is based on a 120-140 pound female who wishes to lose body fat and add some muscle at the same time to become more toned. Add a little more amount per food item if your weight is higher and / or if you are very active during the day.

I like to train after the 3rd meal, so I added some good fats in the meal before my training. If you want to train earlier, try to move your good fats (in this example the almonds) to the meal before your training. They will give you extra energy to train and will make you feel full, especially with a full glass of water to spread out the fibers in your tummy, which the almonds contain.

You do not want the good fats in the meal after your training. Fat slows down the uptake and digestion of nutrients in your body. This way the necessary carbs and protein nutrients will be taken up by the body faster after your training.

If you prefer to train earlier or later than in my example, after meal 3, simply move the pre-workout and post-workout food supplements and post-workout meal # 4 to after your own training time. After your post-workout meal, have the meal after that 1.5 hour later.

Free Weekends:

To give you a nice treat, besides the treatment of your body having great results pretty soon, the weekend is free! You can eat what you want. Try not to go overboard though, it's better not to. That way it does not take too many days for your body to get back on the fat-burning track again after the weekend.

I suggest in the weekends you stick to the first half of the diet and eat what you feel like the rest of the day, or that you atleast try to keep having enough protein during the day. But I let the weekends up to you. You can drink during the weekends too if you want to.

Supplements
Full Of Necessary Vitamins & Minerals To Help You Lose Fat All Day Long!

Experimenting with supplements and fat loss myself, I found that the following supplements really helped me in losing fat, and gaining muscle for that toned fit body at the same time. Besides that, I feel energetic during the day. I want you to feel the same, so here it is:

O One 1000 mg vitamin C in the morning and one after training
O A good multi vitamin.
O One 400 mg vitamin E after training
O 5 gram Glutaluean L-Glutamine by Labrada Nutrition after training and 5 gram before bedtime (for great recovery)
O 5 gram BCAA before training and 5 gram after training (for energy and great recovery)
O 'Super Charge' for pre-workout and 'Re Charge' for post-workout by Labrada Nutrition
O 2 servings of fish oil a day (to help you lose fat)

These are the best supplements to give you all the energy and give you all the help you need to lose body fat and gain muscle for a beautifully toned body. They are not expensive either and they will provide you with what you need for a long time. Why do I only use and suggest Labrada Nutrition products? Because being an athlete I have tried products from different brands. Some brands even add ingredients that are not listed! With those brands, I did not know what exactly I was taking. Labrada Nutrition is an honest company that truly cares about helping people, and never adds any ingredient that is not on the list. It also proved to work very well, as i've used it and noticed how much they added to my results as soon as I started taking them! Labrada Nutrition supplements also are well known for always giving you extra product in weight than what is stated on the bottle that you get. A really great working line of products made by a champion who truly cares about peoples success! It's the only company I trust, have noticed the results from and that I Recommend to all of my readers.

SOS – I Need Help!

What to do when the cravings come up strong sometimes? Well, actually there are all sorts of beats to satisfy your craving without really doing something you're not supposed to so.
When you want to keep eating 'clean' during the week and have the weekends free to eat what you feel like and you have a big craving somewhere during the week, do not worry. There is a way to jump over this hurdle.

Try any of these tips to cut your cravings:

O Have a celery stick dipped in calorie free dressing
O Have a hand full of almonds / walnuts or hand hand of peanuts / cashews with 1 glass of water
O Have some cucumber or a small mixed salad
O Have a green apple
O Have some water, green tea, espresso or coffee (with fat free creamer and / or sweetener)
O Watch tv or a movie
O Go outside and take a walk
O Go shopping. See how smaller sizes fit and look great on you!
O Meet up for social activities with friends; Tell them about your new lifestyle. They will support you!

Also try this little trick; If you're craving for example chocolate, look at the back side of the packet and see how many calories per serving (if you're going to have that recommended serving), you're about to take in. 300 Calories equals 45 minutes of cardio. Do you really want to make it harder on you and slow down your progress? Imagine yourself in nice low-cut jeans with a pretty top, showing your abs. It's just a couple more days; Let's just wait until the weekend.

Enjoy Food, Enjoy Life

Ever see commercials on TV or in magazines of fit people living a happy lifestyle, eating breakfast in the peaceful garden, usually riding a bike or taking a relaxing walk on the beach? They are being described as happy people who appreciate life.

It's true for most fit people, and it could be true for everyone. You appreciate food, your bodies and life so much more now that you focus more on appreciating yourself. This is karma; You give and you take. The energy you put into appreciating and caring for yourself all comes back to you, in a good way.

Appreciating whole foods for your body instead of stressor foods (unhealthy food), enjoying life and having fun attributes to maintaining a fit and healthy lifestyle. It even attributes to a happy lifestyle.

To every action there is a reaction. You've made a couple changes in your life to have a great fit and toned body. You are now burning fat, although sometimes it takes a while for you to notice it.

One, you may not see it at first until the results are greater, even though your friends and family will be complimenting you and telling you they see you've lost weight, and two, sometimes the fat has become looser first, until it Starts coming off.

This may happen in the first few weeks. But soon, before you know it, you will see the fat flying off in a rapid speed. You will be so happy with the results, you will not want to have it any other way. You will choose to keep this way of eating as a lifestyle, a healthy lifestyle that guarantees you having a fit and healthy body for the rest of your life. And you'll do it with pleasure too!

I can not wait for you to have a fit and healthy lifestyle as well! Be sure to make before and after pictures for us all to see when you start this guide to lose your body fat and have a great toned body. Feel free to email them to me. I will be looking forward to seeing those awesome results on you!

Enjoy your results!

Yours in health,
Mercedes Khani

The “Who is your best friend” interview question is used often as part of the behavioral assessment portion of a job interview. The answer you give to this question provides the hiring manager with a sense as to how introspective you are in terms of how other people view you, and well you map your personality characteristics into a work environment. Answering this question or a related question like this well will be important to your chances of getting that new job!

There is no perfect answer in the interview to this question, but there are answers that cast you in a positive light as a leading job candidate, and responses that will result in a strike against you – too many strikes across too many questions equals no job offer.

The interview question is often asked in the form of “Who is your best friend”. When a name is given, the interviewer will then ask “If he/she was in the room with me right now, how would he/she describe you – both the positive and the negative”. I have often received responses of my spouse, my sister or brother, and my mom or dad, all of which are acceptable as well as peer friends.

Good Interview Answers to the Positive Attributes Question

A good answer typically shows that you have a sense as to how other people view you, and you know how to position this view in a way relevant to a work environment. Some examples include the following for the positive character trait portion of the question:

  • I’m outgoing and get along well with others.
  • I’m focused and driven to succeed on whatever task I take on.
  • I like to be challenged – whether a new game, a new environment, or physically pushing myself in sports.

Good Interview Answers to the Negative Attributes Question

I often don’t see really bad answers to the positive piece, but it gets interesting when asked about any negatives a best friend may articulate. These are some generally good answers that managers look for in response to a friend’s description of your negative traits:

  • Sometimes I can be a perfectionist at things and won’t stop until I master a task.
  • I can be a workaholic, and sometimes have to remind myself to balance my personal life with work.
  • I occasionally overextend myself with too many activities both at work and in my community work

Bad Interview Answers to the Positive Attributes Question

Believe it or not, I have received these answers in real interviews, and in addition to not being impressed with how the candidate is thinking, these often start tilting the interview more towards “do not hire”:

  • I like to party and people always want to be around me.
  • I am a shoe fanatic and the person to take shoe shopping.
  • I’m a social butterfly, and often have stuff going on every night of the week in my personal life.

Basically you want to be honest about how your friend would describe you, but use something that translates into a character attribute that a manager would see applying in a work environment.

Shopping, driving cars, etc. don’t fit this purpose, and some of the above answers indicate perhaps a lack of responsibility, especially if the impression is that you are too fun loving and your primary focus is on an active social life. A manager will interpret this as a weak work ethic, which will not be in your favor.

Bad Interview Answers to the Negative Attributes Question

Often responding with a negative is hard for most people [there are other interview questions along these lines as well], and the trick is to not portray a character trait as a true negative, and certainly never give an answer that casts you in a bad light in terms of lack of responsibility, maturity, work ethic, or teamwork.

Here are some real answers I’ve received in interviews that are not a good response to “what would your best friend say in terms of negative characteristics or behaviors”:

  • I party too much and often have trouble getting going in the morning
  • I don’t pay attention to time and often am late for our social appointments / movies / etc.
  • I’m always out of money and asking to borrow some until my next paycheck

Can you see why these would not be received well during an interview, and why you may not come across as someone I’d be excited at having on my team?

Not all interviewers use this question, but similar questions are used during most interviews – we want to learn more about your personality, and how you perceive yourself both in your eyes and in the eyes of others. Often people that are more introspective tend to be more focused on their behavior, contributions to a team, and receive and act on career coaching very well.

It’s that time of the year again when the scorching heat becomes unbearable with each passing day. At such a time, all you want is an air-conditioned room and something cool to sip on. However, if you are going on a holiday, you will be spending a lot of time outside, exploring different places. If this is scaring you, considering the temperature is rising everyday, here are some tips that will help you stay protected from the heat.

Carry a Sunblock Lotion or Sunscreen

Going out in the sun without protecting your skin is a big no no, especially in summer. So, while you searching for the cheapest airline booking online and packing your clothes, also get a bottle or two of sunscreen or sunblock lotion. Sunscreen will not only prevent you from getting a sunburn but it will also protect your skin from the harmful UV rays. When you are buying the lotion, make sure you get one that has both UVA and UVB protection.

Pack Cotton and Lightweight Clothes

During the summer season, it’s advisable that you wear cotton clothes so that your skin can breathe. Wearing synthetic clothes may cause irritation and you might end up feeling hot and suffocated. So, when you are packing for your vacation, make sure you put in light clothes that will help your body stay calm. When it comes to shoes, carry open-toed ones or flip flops so that your feet can get as much air as possible.

Choose the Correct Accessories

Since you will be travelling during peak summer, carry a straw hat, a pair of sunglasses, and a scarf, just in case the heat becomes unbearable. These accessories will keep you protected from the heat when you are out, visiting different places. If you are going to be spending a lot of time on the beach, carry a beach bag and towels with you too. It’s also preferable that you carry a change of clothes so that you don’t have to stay in your sweat-soaked clothes for a long period of time.

Take Necessary Medication with You

Some places can have heat waves during the summer. In such a case, you should be prepared for it. Additionally, if you have diseases that can be triggered due to the heat, take the prescribed medicines with you. You might also want to take vaccinations that will protect you from falling sick from insect bites or mosquitoes.

These are some of the simples steps that you can keep in mind while packing for a summer vacation. And while you are vacationing, just remember to drink a lot of fluids and keep yourself hydrated.

Likely you’ve already heard all of the fuss about contemporary styles. It has taken over all aspects of our everyday life, from the furniture and clothes to the jewelry we buy. Even homes are becoming more contemporary. The same has happened with contemporary wedding bands. Not many people really understand what contemporary means; let alone what contemporary wedding bands are. Most contemporary wedding bands are made and mixed with cheaper, yet durable metals like tungsten carbide, titanium, stainless steel and black zirconium. When compared to some gold, these metals last longer and are equally stylish. To be a bit more specific, tungsten carbide is known to be 10 times harder than 18k gold and 5 times harder than steel.

Being that a lot of contemporary wedding bands are created with tungsten carbide and similar metals, many people buy them. The popularity of contemporary wedding bands has grown substantially based on the fact that they are good looking and will last a lifetime. Another important factor that makes contemporary wedding bands popular is its pricing. Contemporary wedding bands are very affordable compared to gold wedding bands. What also makes contemporary wedding bands a bit more attractive is that they don’t have complicated designs. With traditional gold wedding rings, you may see them littered with diamonds; but contemporary wedding bands are simpler, usually with a single diamond and a unique design.

The designs of contemporary wedding bands are what make them so sought after. They have a modern style that makes them more appealing. A lot of people would like to have contemporary wedding bands just for the fact that they are a bit unusual and more modern than the traditional, somewhat boring, wedding bands. Instead of having the usual plain gold plated wedding band (for men), you can find contemporary wedding bands that have different designs and metal combinations. If it’s eye catching you want, then contemporary wedding bands are definitely it.

For instance, you may find contemporary wedding bands with carvings of different shapes or with two-tones. The possibilities are endless when it comes to contemporary wedding bands, especially since they are always coming up with new ideas. Contemporary wedding bands have styles that are very modern and chic, so not only will they last a lifetime physically, but they will also be fashionable and intriguing for a lifetime. Also, it doesn’t happen often that you’d run into someone that has the same wedding ring as you, unlike with traditional wedding rings.

Now that contemporary wedding bands are more affordable than ever, it is a great time to introduce yourself to the market. Likely you will find something you are looking for or something you didn’t know you were looking for. The possibility of stumbling upon a unique design is very likely when it comes to contemporary wedding bands. There are many different designers of contemporary wedding bands available, so it’s only a matter of time before you find the perfect ring. Tons of people have already fallen in love with the contemporary style, so check it out for yourself.

If you’re planning a summertime wedding that’s outdoors, you can buy discounted sunglasses, swimsuits and other summer wear from Pacsun.

The invention of microfiber brought a revolution in the market few years back. Microfiber towels were successfully launched for cleaning and dusting. Microfiber towels even proved useful to clean oil stains. Right from its inception, this fiber was considered to be far more superior to other fibers available in the market. Microfiber is not only superior in quality but is also quite affordable so it became extremely popular in the cloth industry.

With an excellent cleaning capabilities these towels also became very popular at home for day to day use. This is why people started using such towels for heavy cleaning.

Prior to the invention of microfiber, people preferred to use cotton towels which had an excellent absorption power. But microfiber towels have very high absorbency as compared to cotton towels. Microfiber was an excellent alternative to the old cotton in various products like in microfiber bath towels, sportswear, dusting towels etc. Since these towels have very high absorbency, they are very often used by sports persons and in the gym since they effectively absorb sweat of the person. The average life of microfiber towel is many times more than other conventional towels.

Microfiber brought real change to our lives as it delivered excellent products which replaced other fibers used so far. It is considered to be the best material to wipe out all stains on furniture. If suppose you have spilled some liquid on table or some sauce in kitchen then a microfiber towel can be used to clean them perfectly without leaving a trace of the incident. This kind of towel is not only known for being the best absorbent and it also dries up quite fast.

Microfiber bath towels are extensively used at swimming pools because of its high absorption quality. When swimmers come out of the pool they wipe out their bodies using these. Also, since they are ready to use in very short interval of time as they dry up very quickly, the swimmer can use it again after the wash.

Microfiber bath towels are generally preferred by people living in colder regions where drying your towel daily after bath is not that easy. Even at room temperatures microfiber bath towels dry up much faster as compared to regular cotton bath towels, hence preventing your towel from acquiring mildew odor which initiates due to dampness.

Microfiber bath towel need special care while washing. An extra effort is required from your end to maintain such towels. You can easily wash cotton bath towels with hot water and soap in your washing machine, but washing these towels is a bit more elaborate. While washing a microfiber bath towel you need to follow the wash instructions given on your towel. By following these simple wash instructions you can enjoy using the microfiber towel for a very long time.

Brand Identity is a conversation, an interaction–a brandversation. Like any

conversation, it leaves an impression. Of course, the nature of the impression will depend on the value of the interaction, the way it has been communicated, the way it has been received, and the extent to which it has been engaged.

By the mis-1990s, the Internet had changed the way we worked: the way we were

educated: they way we played, shopped, and communicated. And it promised more.

For anyone involved, this transformational time was exhilarating and exasperating.

The learning curve was no longer a curve but a straight line moving vertically from

its base. The future was again upon us with predictions of revolutionary change and

rapidly developing evidence of that change. Movie theaters would cease to be, the

Internet would bring the demise of radio and television, there would be no further

use of the Post Office, the corner video store would be replaced by online, on-

demand subscription services, and every brick and mortar store would become click

and mortar.

Brandversation v1.0

Corporations rushed with a vengeance to grab history and launch their websites.

The first-generation websites were little more than electronic brochures, and were

commonly referred to as brochure-ware. These sites usually contained an “about

us” statement, some corporate philosophy that had been resurrected from the

company’s archives, dusted off, and lightly rewritten. Descriptions of the company’s

products and services, a careers section, and a “contact us” link were included to

finish of the site. Branding was considered to have been addressed if the company

logo and slogan were in a prominent place and appeared in, as close to the

corporate colors and the web would allow.

Brandversation 2.0

Evolution into more adventurous territory spawned the birth of second-generation

sites: interactive sites. Here a company’s hope was to mine data, with the intent that

this information would help it better understand the consumer. This collection of

data would build a profile on a consumer and, in theory, provide the company with a

rich understanding of the consumer’s lifestyle and spending habits. The hope was

to benefit both the consumer and the company. Usually this was accomplished by

giving something to the consumer in exchange for filling out a brief customer

profile. Case in point: The New York Times gave free access to its online edition to

those who completed such a form. The form requested personal profile and asked

permission to e-mail information that the company thought might be relevant to the

user. Once this was completed, the user had daily access to the news and the Times

had a “cookie” (an informational retrieval) embedded in the user’s computer. In

theory, this cookie could provide a stream of information, including following the

consumer’s online navigational history.

Attention was paid to the brand experience, but only as it applied to the content of

the product or service offered. If a company had a fun product or service, the

experience was made more playful; more businesslike products or services gave a

more straightforward experience. Although a plethora of data was collected, many

companies did not know where to go with this information, where to store the ever-

increasing supply being poured into their system or how to use it.

What was emerging was an exploration into the user expectations and, in fact, into

the way future business would be conducted and branded. Great effort was taken to

ensure that consistent branding and brandversation emerged between the content

of the product or service, but contextual branding was only hinted at.

Brandversation v3.0

Soon third-generation, transactional sites appeared. Business could actually

Be conducted as information was harvested. For a brief moment in time, the idea of

a web centric environment revealed a future where much more was possible.

However, the original hope of having a low-cost media vehicle proved unreachable,

as the drive toward web advertising proved that bringing traffic to a site was a costly

affair. The heavy lifting of driving eyeballs to sites proved to be a Herculean task.

The promise of web centricity proved to be the downfall of many sites. Only a few

web-only business prospered, although not necessarily financially. Companies like

Amazon, which had developed a business model based on retaining each customer

and refining customer profiles over a significant number of years (as long as 12

years), built better customer loyalty. Not only did their plan provide a model for an

extended brandversation, but their ability to harvest information on their customers

also permitted them to develop a richer brand experience. Contextualizing created

rich experiences for customers and other suggestions in their category of interest.

By taking the legwork out of the customer’s research and showing interest in the

customer’s request, Amazon built a brand that is customer centric. Contextualizing

the customer’s experience actually builds business for Amazon.

Brandversation v4.0

The destination site or destination fulfillment business model is undergoing a

colossal evolution that goes beyond web centric or brick-and-mortar-centric

models. It is a profound change that has refocused many corporations from a web

centric perspective to one that is customer-centric. Simply providing an

environment as a platform for the content is not enough. The user wants more, and

is being given more, and this has put more pressure on the brand promise. The user

is demanding content and an experience that is relevant to and engaging to him/

her.

The expanding digital bubble that surrounds each consumer also increases the

pressure on every brand promise. Content is expected, but content alone does not

constitute or guarantee success. Content must be delivered in a contextualized

environment. Contextualized branding links touch points throughout the user’s

experience, making the experience more relevant and rewarding.

The Internet continually reconfirms that its power lies in the ability to connect

people and ideas. The popularity of the chat rooms, user groups, e-mail, and other

forms of social networking are but a few everyday examples. Brand must also make

that connection to the individual. Today, companies must act as though everyone

has been wired into a wireless world.

Narrowcasting versus Broadcasting

Contextualized branding does not look at communicating a general message to a

large group of people. Quite the opposite: it narrowcasts a message, personalizing

that message for a specific audience. By building an audience of ones with a

targeted message, every message adds value to the brandversation between the

brand and the user. Johnson and Johnson’s Tylenol banner campaign explored this

concept by running banner advertisements on the financial sites: the ads for Tylenol

appeared whenever the market dropped 100 points or more.

The brand promise is an experience, a journey, and a friendly walk that always adds

new value to the experience. It can bring consumers back or send consumers

searching for another experience to meet or exceed their expectations. The more

the brand promise considers the needs of the individual consumer, the deeper that

consumer’s loyalty to the brand will be.

Theme parks are exploring ways to improve brand experience by giving users smart

cards that allow them to avoid waiting in lines. By swiping a smart card at a card

reader on the ride of choice, the user registers a place in line and is given a time to

return. In our wireless environment, we will soon be able to do this from cars on the

way to the theme park. Once we arrive, there will be no need to stand in lines, as

the schedule will have been preprogrammed from our cell phones, ensuring more

fun -a better branded experience.

Furthermore, knowing a customer’s schedule would enable the theme park to send

him or her relevant targeted messages. He/her could receive instant messages as

he/she moved through the park, suggesting places to eat and offering coupons or

discount for eating at certain times at certain food providers. Not only does this

richen our user’s branded experience, but also it helps draw customers into places

in the park that may require traffic at that moment, improving the user’s experience

as well as the park’s overall business.

Brand is a conversation that can take place at any of the encounter points that exist

in a consumer experience. At a theme park, the user could enter the experience at

any point though a phone call to the park or travel agent, or a purchase at a

souvenir stand. The user picks his/her point of entry: the user is in control.

A credit card owner has multiple entrance points into a brand. The card owner could

enter her experience by paying a bill online or making a purchase at a store.

Wherever she enters into the experience, she will be touched by the brand. It is the

responsibility if the company to ensure a meaningful contextualized experience if it

wants to retain the customer.

Contextualized Brand

The speed at which the Internet has evolved has highlighted the importance of the

brand experience. It has also revealed that the experience must be relevant and

contextualized.

Brand experience is a one-fold proposition: brand and experience cannot exist with

the other. For a band to survive, it must display a very clear, distinguishable brand

promise, focus and goal. Brand attributes go beyond the immediate benefits of a

product or service and are influenced by the attributes of the brand promise, as it is

contextualized throughout the touch points of the consumer experience.

Contextualizing the consumer experience means developing a branded experience

that constantly exceeds a customer’s expectation. Imagine a scenario in which you

are connected to a true brandversation. Make it simple, a scenario booking an

airline ticket for a business trip. You want to arrive in New York and return a week

later. As you book the ticket, you are given a list of car rentals, hotels, restaurants,

and special events happening at the time of your visit, personalized to your own

preregistered preferences (sports fans get a list of sports events, geeks find the

latest techie exhibitions and hot spots in the city); a reminder to send a gift to your

dad for his birthday (with a suggested selection of gifts); a wake up and weather

service call. It was the Internet space that reconfirmed what was previously known

but has been somewhat forgotten. Branding means a great user experience. Good

Internet branding went beyond logos, taglines, slogans and corporate statements

into real-time interaction for an online experience that is meaningful.

But branding

does not stop there. Developing a contextualized experience may include doing

more than one company is able to provide. Coalition programs, partnership between

companies with the purpose of providing a seamless consumer experience,

recognize the importance of granularly defining a company’s brand relationship to

other companies in the emerging wi-fi environment. As consumers settle into their

digital, wired bubbles, the demand for personalized experiences will intensify.

Don’t leave Home Without it

Our communication technology has us wired to the world, exposing the user to the

branded experience 24/7, anywhere, any time and all at their choosing. The more

robust the technology becomes, the more creative minds find ways to employ it. M-

technology notifies us when we are in the vicinity of a friend or business contact. It

offers us coupons redeemable at restaurants we are passing by. It notifies us when a

book we are interested in has arrived as we pass by a store.

Today in Japan, DoMoCo has put all of this in place. Teenage girls have totally

embraced this technology, turning their mobile phoned/e-mail/entertainment/wi-fi

environment into a fashion item worn as a necklace.

Salarymen are wired in and out of the office as Gen3 mobile technology becomes

ubiquitous. A man looking through the car showroom window at the latest Mercedes

after the dealership has closed can use his phone to scan a QR code on the window.

This can activate a commercial on his mobile phone broadcasting a commercial

demonstrating all the features of the vehicle of any car he is interested in. NNT

DoMoCo’s success lies in its creative ability to align its brand with thousand of other

companies.

Cell phone ownership among teenagers in Sweden is 100 percent. The opportunity

to immerse an audience in a deep branded digital communication is limited only by

our ability to creatively use current and future technology.

Today’s branded experience is an interconnected experience that links the user with

a robust, meaningful, personalized, prioritized experience. It requires a brand vision

that is creative, customer-centric, and globally encompassing. The user is in control

they want information when they are ready to receive it. The digital environment

provides us with the technology to meet this demand. From blogs, podcasts, social

networks, destination sites, he user has more touchpoints to interact with and each

one offers an opportunity to deepen their loyalty to a brand but it requires a

brandversation that is imagination and compelling. It requires people with a

relentless creative vision and imagination to continually evolve the brand

experience.

We have a gift of time.

My husband and I are both jobless for the first time since the 1980’s (you can do the math). The obvious and logical choice for most people would be to hit the pavement and search for new gainful employment. We are in the fortunate position that we do not need to worry about young dependents, read “children.” We are also lucky to have very healthy parents.

So why not? What are we waiting for? Why are we working? What better way to celebrate by taking some well deserved time off than to travel? These were all used in my heavy negotiating phase. I am lucky enough to have a husband who is willing to try new things and frankly “go along for the ride.” So the planning began back in June and the list was very long. The most important thing was the visa application to allow for an extended stay in the country (anything over 90 days requires a visa).

Several years ago, I worked in France and nothing has changed, if there is one thing the French love it is paperwork. There is no better way to emphasize the national love for bureaucracy than a lengthy visa application. The process for an extended stay (visa de long séjour) is 15 steps long, and is clearly not for the faint of heart. You need to commit to gathering all of the following (and more) in original and photocopy versions; police clearance, finger printing, photos, insurance, copies of your bank balance, promises not to work, seek unemployment insurance or get sick. Unless you are incredibly organized, it is no small feat to gather the documentation. Once you have all the documentation together, you need to physically go to Vancouver (or your closest consulate location) for a face-to-face interview, and to hand over the documents in person.

The documents for the long stay visa application requires all of the following (NOTE: verify exact requirements as the process is constantly flux):

  1. Passport valid at least three months after the expiry date of the visa + 1 set of photocopies of the main pages (photo, validity date, visas…)
  2. Long Stay visa application form duly filled out and signed + 2 recent and identical photos
  3. Per child: 1 Long Stay visa application form duly filled out and signed + 2 recent and identical photos
  4. Office Francaise de L’immigration et L’integration form completed
  5. Any document supporting your status in Canada and allowing your re-entry: Canadian Long Form birth certificate, Canadian citizenship card, permanent resident card (to be photocopied both sides), valid Canadian visa… + 1 photocopy
  6. Proof of means of income for the entire length of your stay in France: last 3 months bank statement showing your name and balance, last Notice of Assessment (NOA)… + 1 photocopy
  7. Letter under oath stating not to engage in any work + 1 photocopy
  8. Documents supporting your socio-professional status in Canada: recent letter of the employer (with position, record of employment, salary, vacation), last 3 pay stubs, Business Registration if you are self employed… + 1 photocopy
  9. RCMP Police clearance + 1 photocopy
  10. Questionnaire (visa long sejour visiteur) completed in French + 1 photocopy
  11. Proof of residency in France such as a lease, a title of property, etc + 1 photocopy.
  12. Proof of enrolment at a French school for children aged 6 to 16.

If the visa is granted:

The travel medical insurance is valid for the entire length of your stay in all the Schengen zone and covers all medical expenses such as medicine, hospitalization, repatriation with a minimum coverage of 50,000 CAD + 1 photocopy

We had to travel to Vancouver to complete our visa process. That included two return flights and a hotel room, to make sure we did not miss the appointed time. We arrived in advance of our scheduled appointment. The entry door is imposing and does cause a moment of reflection before you hit the buzzer and stumble through your greeting in French. After entry you are requested to hand over your precious stack of documents to a security guard. In our case, he rifled through our documents in a very officious manner. He removed paperclips, staples and rearranged the order. Frankly, after months of painstakingly gathering the documents it felt like a violation.

Then we were asked to wait. The next few minutes were painful as you are clearly on CCTV they have all of your most precious documents and at this stage you are not in control. We amused ourselves and passed the time by reading a French/English dictionary. We were called up to the next window and asked for proof related to our documents, this included:

  1. More photos
  2. More fingerprints
  3. The application fee

With that, we had 30 minutes to get to the bank (for updated statements) and the post office (prepaid envelope) before the office 12:30pm closing time. We made it!

I had decided long ago, it took my hubby a bit of time to catch on, that Jade our black lab would also benefit from some French food, and she may be able to pick up the odd word too. So this is proof of the fact that the French love their pets more than people, and certainly more than tourists. Jade’s application process had two steps and does not require a visit to the consular office.

Despite a bit of an onerous process a long stay in France is worth every ounce of effort. We are enjoying the food, the wine, new friends and lots of new adventures. We are making the best of our “gift of time.”
